Description

Presented by Housing Innovations

Morning Session:

"Developing a Housing Retention Plan"

Beginning when people are developing housing goals the discussion will need to focus on how each person will sustain the housing. Identifying potential barriers using a housing and homelessness history and developing plans to meet the expectations of tenancy will be discussed. As people have moved to housing we will also focus on identifying strengths and barriers to sustaining tenancy, maintaining good communication with landlords to prevent crisis and using a shared decision making model to negotiate the plan. Techniques to support strong tenancy and eviction prevention techniques will also be discussed. Case studies will be used to problem solve in small groups and highlight best practices.

Afternoon Session:

"Working with Landlords"

Session will begin with housing access and navigation: establishing relationships and recruiting landlords, negotiating access to units and highlighting best practices such as developing a community wide landlord network. Landlord priorities and how to describe the on-going role of service providers will be discussed. Maintaining an ongoing relationship with landlords to maintain tenancy and help to prevent eviction is often an issue and will be the focus of the second half of the session. Techniques to establish a consistent and predictable process with landlords to enforce the lease as well as problem solving around landlords who are more absent will be discussed with other challenges that affect tenancy through examples from the group.
